Adoption Fees Note - Adoption fee helps us cover the cost of sterilization surgery, microchip & registration, deworming, vaccines of both DHLPP & Bordatella or FVRCP (for kittens), and rabies vaccine if they are 4 months or older, any necessary blood work, FELV/FIV testing, or HW testing. Physical exams, all other costs like food, medications, flea preventatives, etc. are covered by the group. If you would like to further help ARWOB with daily needs and expenses, please DONATE whatever essentials you can offer.
All of the dogs are up-to-date on their shots, have been tested for heartworms and intestinal parasites (and treated if necessary), and have been spayed or neutered. There is an adoption fee to be applied towards the incurred medical bills and necessary administrative costs (which include office supplies, gasoline, adoption posters, etc. - WE ARE A VOLUNTEER BASED ORGANIZATION AND THERE ARE NO SALARIES FOR ANYONE IN THE GROUP). The adoption fee is tax-deductible and assists ARWOB in saving more dogs and cats while also improving their current lives by covering medical costs. Note that there are extreme circumstances that postpone the sterilization of the dogs (*). These are guidelines if there is a financial concern, please don't hesitate to contact us.

(*) An example of this would be a puppy/Kitten that is too young to be altered. In this case, the adoption fee is still applicable however there will be a special adoption contract with a clause stipulating that the dog/cat will be spayed when they turn 4 months old. Adoption of puppies/kitten that are younger than 4 months old (AND older than 9 weeks of age) will have to be adopted in the San Diego area (within 30 miles of San Diego in either direction). This will make things easier for everyone when it is time for their second or third and final set of vaccinations, deworming and of course spay or neuter day as well as microchip implantation while under anesthesia. For an adopter that is further than 30 miles from San Diego, they have the option to pay the cost of gas fuel for a volunteer to come to their home or the adopter can bring/drive the dog/cat to us in order to continue with protocol, especially for the spay/neuter date. Spaying and neutering is a requirement of adoption and it WILL be legally enforced to prevent further contributions to the current pet overpopulation.
