We received an update about Elsie (fka Barbie Mom), who was adopted from ARWOB in April 2020. Here is what her adoptive mom had to say:
"Barbie Mom has been renamed to Elsie. She loves to spend her time sunbathing and chasing her favorite toy, a shiny red string. Other favorite toys are ping pong balls, packing paper and toilet paper rolls. She loves company and will find the perfect perch so you are always within her sight. In the mornings, a good massage of ruffling her fur will elicit happy purrs. Watch out for laying on the floor because Elsie's favorite thing is to cuddle your head, get tangled in your hair, then fall fast asleep leaving you trapped on the floor. Oddly Elsie dislikes deep handsome voices and the sound of the AC being on. While on the other hand she loves window watching, is friendly with female strangers, and is not afraid of the roomba. When we first got Elsie, she had just finished nursing her litter and undergone getting spayed. Now at a healthy 10 pounds, Elsie favors seafood flavors and never attempts to sneak at human food anymore. She quickly learned not to scratch the couch or be on the kitchen counter and is a very polite and smart kitty. We love Elsie and so thankful to have her in our lives."
Matthew and his brother Gunnar were adopted together by one of ARWOB's lovely volunteers back in August 2020. She had already adopted two brothers from ARWOB named Bernie and Beast back in 2017, after they had been relinquished back to ARWOB by their original adopter after 7 years! When Bernie crossed the Rainbow Bridge, she decided to foster Matthew and Gunnar, who were very skittish little kittens in the beginning. Thankfully they have blossomed and their foster mom decided to "foster fail" and adopt them permanently, so that Beast would have some companionship. They are a happy little family and we are very pleased!

Today’s adoption update is noteworthy for a few reasons. Beast and Bernie were two kittens that had been adopted from ARWOB in October 2009 and then relinquished back to us seven years later in November 2016 when they were seniors! They were fostered together by a lovely volunteer, who absolutely fell in love with them and decided to adopt them as a pair in February 2017. Bernie has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but Beast is still going strong. His adoptive mom recalls the first time she met the brothers: “I remember the first time I met them at the PetSmart in Oceanside. Beast was hiding in a cubby box in the corner of the kennel and Bernie immediately jumped onto the mini cat tree next to the kennel when I opened the kennel door. They looked so sad and confused being there that I immediately decided to foster these big floofy boys. I think it was a month later that I foster failed.”
Fast forward to present day and the story continues to be even more heartwarming! Beast’s mom decide to foster two very skittish kittens for ARWOB in August 2020, who are named Matthew and Gunnar. They slowly came out of their shell, but it was pretty obvious that they were bonded and needed to stay together. Once again, their foster mom fell in love and now Beast has two little brothers to spend his days with, who keep him on his toe beans and provide him with never-ending companionship!
