Meet Smiley!
update 4/30/20
Smiley is a 7yr old (we think) Schipperke/American Eskimo/Pomeranian something something adorable mutt! She is full grown small breed with medium coat and is the 22-24lb Range.
She was rescued in San Diego and entered the shelter system with a massive mass in her leg and the shelter requested assistance with this medical case. ARWOB exited Smiley, had her mass removed in February, and to the specialist's and surgeon's surprise, she recovered better than she could have ever asked for! The veterinarian was able to save her leg from amputationm but Smiley also did recover beautifully with ZERO movement limitations not even a skip or limp!
She is a low key girl, but with the right dog or human, she will play chase and run around playing and being a total goofball.
Smiley is crate and house trained, she does well on car rides, and she does well with dogs, but mostly in the house vs on leash. She has a mild leash reactivity which is very easily corrected, only when a dog approached to say hi nose to nose and, again, she responds quickly to a quick leash correction so she knows she needs to be proper when a doggy friend comes in her "personal space" while on leash. She has been fostered with dogs and enjoys their company, but she is a people dog more than anything.
She also seems to do very well with cats and rabbits :) as her foster family has both and one day the bunny escaped her enclosure being a rebel in the home and Smiley could care less of her new Roomate :)
---------------------------------------------///
Smiely is NOT available for adoption yet as she is a medical case since she was exited from a local SD shelter in early February. She is currently scheduled for a specialist exam on 2/19 to determine if her mass will be able to be removed or what form of action we can take. We are hopeful she will be adoptable. For now, we need a foster home to help us through medical/vet appts. She has a foster for the first 2 weeks since we exited her from the shelter and they LOVE her sweet, loving personality. She is great with people, dogs and cats. House and crate trained. SHe entered the shelter as an over the counter turn in from someone who said they 'found her'. Sadly, she has a VERY large watermelon size mass on her back leg and she was already spayed previously so, as of now, tests from blood work, chest xrays, and FNA from her mass indicate it's benign, which is excellent news! We just need to figure out how to remove it and hope the specialist is able to do so. We will need a foster starting 2/20 for this sweet girl and all her vet apts are in the UTC- Mission Valley area. To meet this girl, please submit an application at arwob.org
We are hopeful she will be available for adoption in mid March.
Don't wait...Submit an adoption application today!
