Meet Blue!
UPDATE 4-13-21:
Blue was returned to ARWOB after 2 weeks because she didn't meet the expectations of the adopters. We have been told that Blue is limited in terms of how far she is able to go on walks and that she is very selective when she meets other dogs. We also were told she displayed separation anxiety and did not like being left alone. We do think that with an experienced adopter, who is willing to work with Blue, she will overcome some of these behaviors. We also think she will likely build some stamina if she is taken on short walks, so that she can slowly build up to longer walks. She is young, so she should be able to eventually handle longer walks. Again, with the right experience adopter, who is willing to train her, we believe Blue will blossom!
Currently (as of 4/16/21), Blue is crate trained. She also can sleep in her crate 8 hours per night comfortably without accidents. Through the day she stays in her crate for short periods of time, 2-4 hours depending on the day. She has never had an accident and her current foster can come and go from the home. The trick is to make sure Blue doesn't see you coming and going from the home! This requires a selective area for her crate in a separate room or in an area where she cannot see you coming/going. Perhaps leaving a chew in her crate to keep her entertained may help, while her foster leaves the home.
Blue loves people and car rides. She enjoys playing with cats. She has a selection of dogs she likes and is great friends with Laddie, Maya, and Georgie (small to large breeds and low to high energy dogs). She will likely be dog selective when walking on a leash, especially if the new dog is too much “in her face.” This may happen with certain breeds or high energy dogs that do not know how to give Blue her space. She needs to get to know new dogs slowly or she may snarl and snap at them. This is easily preventable if her handler is paying attention to her warning signals (i.e. slight lip raising). She is easily correctly and can meet all dogs when she is told to behave. She prefers to meet dogs off leash, but if she doesn’t like someone, as long as she is monitored/corrected, she will stop acting that way and will start being friends with that dog. She does prefer dogs that are her size or smaller and who are friendly dogs that like to play.
Blue can have a high-pitched bark when something gets her excited. A firm “NO” will correct her and she will listen. Basically, Blue can turn into a “Diva” in the hands of the wrong adopter, which can be a problem. If her adopter is a retired person or someone who works from home, that would not be an issue for her. If her adopter is a working adult, who is gone long hours, Blue would need correction/training to slowly build her confidence at staying home alone. Ideally she would need to be trained in her crate for months until she is comfortable with their schedule. She is very loving towards people and enjoys playing with her doggy friends.
If you would like to adopt this sweet girl, please submit an application online at www.arwob.org. Don’t wait!
