Meet Maya!
UPDATE 4-17-21: Maya has a pending adoption.
UPDATE 4-8-21: Maya has been with a new foster home this week and here is their update:
Maya is more people oriented than she is with dogs. She does not like puppies who are the “in your face/licky face” type and she will put them in their place. If it’s just one exuberant puppy, she will tolerate it, but we think she would do best with more calm dogs. She seems to be keeping an eye on the cats and she is likely more scared of them as she will try to “shush” them away from her rather than being aggressive toward them. But she may not do well with cats that try to approach her and she may become snippy with the cat in an effort to get them to leave her alone. It may be because she is still getting her bearings in her new foster situation. If a potential adopter has cat(s), it may be best if they were to do a 1-2 week foster-to-adopt trial to make sure Maya will be fine with them. But we do not expect her to go after the cats as long as they leave her alone, especially in the beginning when she is scared.
UPDATE 4-3-21: Maya's foster family has observed the following within the last few days;
Maya tolerates cats. She shows no agression, but wasn't properly socialized with them. When our cats get close to her crate, or if they are playing nearby, she gets somewhat fearful and defensive. Therefore, we now feels she may be best in a home with NO cats, unless her adopter is an experienced dog owner who can supervise Maya around their cat(s), so that she learns not to be fearful of them. She seems comfortable in her crate after an uneventful introduction to our dog and appears to be taking it all in. She absolutely loves the yard and rolling belly up in the grass. She is not a barker and is clean in the house. She knows how to walk on a leash and does not pull. She will not step through the doorway unless she is on a leash and we suspect she was trained that way.
