Meet Brave!
UPDATE 3-13-22:
One of our volunteers spent the day with Brave and has this to say about his personality:
“Brave is a super sweet, friendly, gentle dog. He loves humans and isn’t timid of them. He is very mild-tempered, good natured, submissive dog. He’s about 1 yr old but does not have puppy energy. His activity level is more of a 5 yr old. He is good with kids (met my neighbor’s granddaughter).
He is also good with dogs of all sizes and ages. He observes them and will sniff, run with them, and interact a little but doesn’t engage in full contact play. He loves when you toss a ball and will chase it but doesn’t bring it back. He loves frisbee toys and will bring it back and drop at your feet majority of the time.
Brave is very food motivated. He doesn’t know any commands but after I pushed his butt down 2 times telling him to sit for a treat, on the 3rd time he sat down on his own for the treat. He was scared to get out of car at the dog park but when I got the bag of treats out, he was motivated to hop out of the car. Brave is scared to get in/out of car and scared of new experiences but just needs more exposure to not be timid.
He does not pull his leash when on a walk. He tends to walk behind you and to your right. After some consistent correction, he started learning to walk to my left next to my leg. He will need to continue to work on this for it to stick. He needs to learn not to jump on people when he wants attention or is excited or needs comfort. He got a little mouthy/nippy when was I was tossing the frisbee because he was excited.
It was a very cute moment at the dog park when a dog was getting beat up by another dog near us, Brave went over but stayed a safe distance of about 5 feet and did a low bark growl as if saying, “HEY!! Stop it!! That’s not nice!!” and then came back to me.”
ORIGNAL RESCUE STORY:
This handsome boy was rescued from a rural area by a river bed back in November 2021 when he was a younger teenager. At the time he was a bald and mangey dog, who was rescued by a good Samaritan that helped foster him while he received treatment for his skin mites. Brave has been healthy and free of mange since December, which is when we started his vaccination schedule. He is neutered and ready for adoption!
Brave has always been a happy sweetheart, who is playful and active. He is friendly with people, dogs, and cats. He was mostly an outdoor dog when he lived with his rescuers, who had a special little place designated for him. However, Brave would LOVE to learn how to become a house dog and family dog! So if you are looking for a smart, loving, and playful dog, then Brave is the one for you! He would benefit from being enrolled in dog/puppy obedience training with a dog trainer in order to learn some basic obedience and doggy manners. This will help him thrive, so he can become a well behaved and wonderful family dog. Ideally Brave's adopter will have other dog(s) in the home or is willing to keep him social and friendly with other doggo friends at places like the dog park.
If you are interested in Brave, please submit a dog adoption application online at ARWOB.org and a volunteer will call within 3 days of receiving your application. If you are not contacted in this time frame, please contact us to follow up on your application. If your application is approved to move forward with the adoption process, we will then set up a meet and greet. If the meet goes well, he can go home that same day! We do not place holds on any of our rescues.
