Meet Dora!
UPDATE 5/24/24

Dora is the perfect medium size dog with an absolutely beautiful personality both very social, friendly and outgoing towards other dogs and humans. Dora is house traines, crate trained, potty trained and although she is a tripod (front leg amputated) she can run with the fastest of dogs and has no problem going up/down stairs. She has lived in a foster home with young children (whom she adores) and currently is fostered in a home with only adults and another large breed dog. Dora has always been fostered in homes with other dogs and all dogs like dora both alpha males/female dogs have no issue with her which tells you how great of a personality she has. She does not need to be adopted into a home with other dogs BUT we do request adopters to continue to enrich her life by making sure she attends dog beach, dog park, doggy day care and/or has playdates with other dog owners as she enjoys dog play. Dora has been exposed to RVing life with previous foster home. At this time she is fostered with young adults that work/study so she is used to being home alone off/on and she has not displayed any anxiety. 

 Dora has no mobility problems And can walk, run and go up and down stairs without problems. She may not be a great partner if you are looking for a running companion but she loves to go camping, RVing, running around at dog beach and the dessert (See videos) . She is a great driving copilot and loves to play fetch.

Why is Dora still available for adoption? Because in 2023/2024 are too hard of years for dogs to find forever families and its taking a long time for even the best of dogs to find forever families. Dora is a healthy strong dog that has NO future medical concerns or need except making sure her adopter keeps her weight under control which is imperative for 3 legged dogs to not be overweight to have no mobility issues when they become senior dogs. Dora is maximum 40 pounds and her normal healthy weight can be anywhere in the 35-38 pounds which means monthly weigh ins and keeping her muscles strong by being active.  Dora survived the streets of baja, leg amputation and TVT infection and is not holding her back in her journey to find a wonderful forever home who will treasure her 3 legged and all. BACK STORY HISTORY OF DORA RESCUE AND MEDICAL JOURNEY:

This beautiful tripawd was lovingly named by her rescuer and original foster parent as they encountered her while they where down in Baja Mexico. This sweetheart approached them seeking food and water which is exactly what they gave her and the opportunity at a new safe life. They noticed she was holding her front leg limping and named her "Dora the explorer".

Once in San Diego and seen by our partner veterinarian X-rays showed an old fracture which wouldn't have a great prognostic for recovering and hence amputation was schedule the week before Thanksgiving holiday. Thankfully Dora did amazing post surgery and the next day she was moving around pain free without any difficulty. In January Dora went on a foster to adopt trail with a home with cats and unfortunately she was not a great match. Her foster really wanted to adopt her but her senior kitties where not happy with her because she showed a little too much interest in them. In January dora started to 'spot' blood where she would lay down. We initially thought perhaps a UTI since she was already spayed BUT after diagnostic tests it was determined this poor girl had been incubating TVT a sexually transmitted veneral disease species specific to canines only. VERY common where intact dogs are running around like Mexico, reservations, ranche,etc. Thankfully it was diagnosed right away so it was a very mild infection. The only treament for it is chemotherapy which means she had to have 5 sesions (one treatment a week) plus 1 month of 'waiting' after her last chemo treatment was given to make sure it was all removed and gone. As of 4/8/24 Dora was 100% and no further TVT traces which means she is now back up and available for adoption. We can say from experience when dogs treated for TVT get adopted they never have complications or reacurance of it in the future as its a very easily treated condition (just an expensive trestment ha!).  YAY!!
