** This dog is looking for a foster home/adopter who can care for them by helping them lose weight before their adoption is finalized.
**Adopters must know that ARWOB will not finalize the adoption of this dog until after January/February. This is because she has not been spayed or had a dental. Since this dog is so overweight, she cannot be put under anestesia and cannot have any operations done at this moment. So those seeking to adopt this dog must know that this dog is still under ARWOB until she gets everthing done. Adopters should remain in touch with ARWOB until mid Jan/Feb when the dog can have her sterilization surgeries along with her dental done. ARWOB is responsible for the costs of all operations. This dog's adoption fee will be $350 to cover the fraction of the costs for spays, dentals, and blood works..
Penny is a spayed tan Pomeranian female, is about 5 1/2 years old, small breed, and has long hair. She will need to be spayed come Jan/Feb. She is a mild barker, but is very lovable and submissive.
On November 1st we received an email to help with the exit/rescue of poms from a breeder/puppy mill that had 35 poms in cages. The conditions were not favorable.
The dogs are sweet and friendly, even though they were kept in cages/corrals-- outside in the weather-- for more than 3 years. They behave fairly well although they have never experienced a normal, loving home life. They are fairly quiet but will bark if they hear commotion. Their barks are very soft, however (as is the case with all poms).
These sweeties will follow you around and they are so happy to be loved and petted. They prefer to stay outside in the yard but once they trust you and feel safe they will want to be inside the house checking things out. There is still some work to do with regard to house and leash training as they have never been out for walks before, but they are making progress every day.
We apologize for their summer haircuts in the middle of winter but they LOVE them; they were so happy in the bathtub and enjoyed their grooming session so much, probably because they were never this well-taken care of before. They were terribly matted in the belly and back of legs, so much so that Foxy's and Teddy's fluffy tails were stuck to the backs of their legs which made it hard for them to move around. Penny had so much matted hair that it was hard for her to sit and go potty comfortably. Now they are running around and enjoying their new, clean hairdos.
These three are very healthy and they will need a dental exam soon, but not at this time.
They have been spayed and neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated and de-wormed. The physical exams show good health, but they need an adopter who will exercise them daily and keep them on strict diets to allow them to lose weight. All three would be ideal for a those who live in safe, quiet retirement communities. We do want to note - poms need adopters who will be able to meet their needs like yearly dental exams, monthly grooming, healthy premium dog foods and lots and lots of love.
