Truffle also called 'Trufa' is your typical Baja mutt. She was rescued deep in the hills of Ensenada by some hikers who were camping in the area. She approached them and they followed her where she had 6 little babies, who were probably about a month old. Thankfully the hikers just could not leave the little family behind and took the puppies, with mama following them close behind while wagging her tail. She knew these kind people were going to help! The entire family was rescued in mid-March and a local Ensenada rescuer was contacted for more help. Sometime in July, the kind rescuer contacted a local shelter for help in taking the entire family. Truffle was a great mom, nursing and caring for her puppies. However, she was too shy and scared in the shelter environment. She stood shivering in the back of her kennel, so she was denied intake, but the shelter was able to accept her puppies into their care. Her original rescuers thought of getting Truffle spayed and then releasing her back into the community. However, she is too social and loves people, so she is highly adoptable. She is too submissive to live on the streets as a “community dog” as many of the dogs live in Baja. They felt she deserves a chance to find a home of her own, so ARWOB was contacted to see if we could help. ARWOB was able to accept her into our care in early September. As of mid-October, Truffle is ready for adoption!
Truffle is a healthy, vetted, and strong girl. She is SO loving and ready to find her forever home. She will make her debut at our adoption event on 10/18/25. She is currently staying at Casa de ARWOB, but she boarded for a few weeks at the vet and she is one of the staff’s favorite boarding dogs! At Casa de ARWOB she has been doing great! She is crate trained and has not had any house accidents. We can’t say she is fully house trained yet, but she is pretty good so far. She is very social and friendly toward dogs and ALL people, but we have not tested her with cats yet. She does not seem to be a barking/vocal kind of dog and so far the only “negative” thing we have seen about Truffle is her “jumping” on people, which is mostly standing on two hind legs and putting her front paws on you to say “Hola! My name is Truffle and let’s be friends!” We were told that when she lived with her rescuer in Baja, she was great with children, so we think she would likely make a great family dog.
Truffle would love to find her forever family, but in the meantime it would be very helpful if we could find a foster home for her. Are you interested in adopting or fostering a beautiful dog?! If so, you can find more information by contacting us or visiting us online at www.ARWOB.org
