Piper (fka Pearl) was adopted in August 2025 and joined a loving family who has adopted 2 other dogs from ARWOB. We love repeat adopters! Her adoptive mom provided a wonderful "pupdate" about Piper and Madra. Madra (fka Petyr) was adopted from ARWOB in August 2013 and is still going strong. Here is what their adoptive mom had to say:
"Piper (FKA Pearl) came to me as a very shy, sweet girl. I had lost one of my dogs, Josie, to cancer five months before. Both she and my other dog, Madra, are ARWOB alums so when I was ready, I reached out to see if one of the dogs I saw on the website was suitable for me, Madra, and my orange cat, George. Everything ARWOB told me about her made me think she would be a wonderful dog. At first, I fostered her just to see how she would do with Madra and George. Madra wasn’t quite sure what to do with her since he was 12 1/2 and had recently lost his “sibling” of 11 years.
Piper was very shy and nervous when I first got her. When we went on walks in the park, she was suspicious of anyone walking behind us and kept looking back. She was curious about humans and friendly with other dogs, but she did not like when the humans tried to pet her and would back away. Such is the life of a stray. We started doing walks together in my local park, which also has a dog park. At first, we walked on the path outside of the dog park because I wanted to get a feel for whether the dogs in the park were friendly, especially since Piper was shy, and Madra was on the older side. Eventually, though, we saw that it was a park where people paid attention to their dogs while they chatted and quickly broke up any dogs that were getting overly excited. After about a month, I took her in there. At first Piper was pretty shut down, but as she got to know people and dogs she started to open up. I was also doing some training with her which gave her more confidence and as she started to open up her mischievous side came out. She has learned to open the patio slider, and even though she is growing out of her puppyhood at 2+ years old, she still likes a slipper or two! She loves to give kisses, which makes it a little bit hard to put a leash on her while she is kissing you. She has quite the gymnastic tendencies as well. Considering she is a 40 pound pitbull mix, she likes to jump up on things like a cat would and sometimes I have to put stuff on the chairs to keep her from doing that.
Madra now adores her while my orange cat, George, says “meh,” but that’s to be expected. I think she would give him kisses if he would let her, but he says no way! Madra, George and I were all missing our lovely Josie, but Piper has brought such joy to all of us. It’s been very healing. She is now been called the Belle of the Dog Park and I’m so excited to see more and more of her personality coming out. She sure is living up to her original name of Pearl!
Pollita was adopted in June 2025. She is living her best life with her new family and has been on many adventures with them. Incredible!
"It is great to hear from you! We absolutely LOVE Pollita. She's really blossomed into a more confident pup. She's super smart and learns really quickly. She's got basic commands down (stay, recall, crate, sit, etc.) We are working on managing her excitement when seeing other dogs, but she has gotten a lot better already. She goes on walks with us, shopping trips, and all kinds of adventures! Our most recent trip was to Yosemite, and she had a blast. She absolutely loves her pack, particularly our boy cat Salem. They are our dynamic duo hahaha. Thank you for rescuing her. She is absolutely our soul dog, and we adore her. She’s really energized my older dog, Chonchis, it’s been beautiful to see!"
Penelope was rescued from the streets of Ensenada in March 2022. She was very fortunate to have a long-term foster family, who provided her with a loving and stable environment. She transferred to her new foster dad in October 2024 and she continued to live within a loving and stable home. However, our dream was that she would evenually find a loving forever home of her own. Penny is FIV+ and even though kitties like her can live long and healthy lives, she was often overlooked. She waited a long time to find her forever home and she was finally adopted in January 2025! Now she is living her best life! We are over the moon to get this "purrfect" update from her adoptive mom:
"Penelope is doing great! She's settled in perfectly with no issues, and she seems to know that she's finally home. :) She has turned into quite the velcro cat, and she loves following me around the house wherever I go. She likes to lie as close to me as possible or just directly on me! Penny loves looking out the window, taking naps in the sun, and playing with her favorite feather toy. I feel very lucky that I was the one to adopt her, she's one of the best cats I've ever had already."
Sunny (fka Phoenix) has had a challenging journey, but now she is home at last! She was originally named Sabina and was adopted in 2018 as a young adult kitty. Unfortunately, her original adopters let her down and rehomed her without contacting ARWOB. She was eventually rehomed again and we found out she spent 3 years living in a dark solitary room, neglected and suffering from a flea infestation. Thankfully she was rescued and brought to a local animal shelter who scanned her chip and contacted ARWOB. She spent time with an ARWOB foster family recovering from her ordeal and getting her health back. We renamed her Phoenix because she "rose from the ashes" and now she has found the loving forever home she deserves! She is delighted to be in her new home and has blossomed to be the beautiful fluffy girl she once was. She can now enjoy her golden years living her best life. Her new adoptive mom just adores her and shared this wonderful update with us. Sometimes dreams do come true and there is a happy ending!!
"She is doing wonderful. Her new name is Sunny… and she loves food, treats, and is a bit of a Velcro cat. She follows me around and jumps into bed with me. Even sleeps under the covers at my hip. She loves to play, sunbathe, eat her cat grass and stare out the front door at people walking by. She’s a sweet little thing and is an absolute joy to have. She had some dental work done and had a couple teeth removed. She healed well and the vet says her overall health is very good! Her coat is coming in more and she’s gotten even more floofy :) Sunny is the best little roommate I could ask for. I adore her. Thanks for checking in." :)
Pip was adopted in October 2024 and he is really living the good life with his adoptive family. What a lucky boy!!
"Pip is the sweetest boy. He is really smart and loves his toys and snuggling. He loves to go on walks and lay outside on the deck. He has been a great addition to the household and we love him very much."
