UPDATE 10/3/20: Here is what Pepe’s foster mom has to say about him:
“All dogs are deserving of a forever home, but Pepe even more so than most. He is smart, social, loves people and other dogs and just wants to please. He loves to go on short walks around the block (with breaks because of his leg). He is very interested in all the sights and smells and you can see the joy on his face. He loves to take nap breaks near his person between walks and he thinks that his new Kong is pretty great. Pepe had a couple of accidents in the house at first, but once he was corrected a couple of times and shown where to go he has been great ever since. We are working on sit and stay, he is VERY treat motivated, so these help loads.”
ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY:
Pepe was rescued by a different rescue group back in 2016, but sadly he has been stuck in Tijuana where his rescuer lives. Because of the lack of a good foster family, he has lived mainly as an outside dog in a corral with another dog. He has not had much interaction or attention by humans, so he has lived a sad boring life. His rescuer contacted ARWOB for help and we accepted to transfer Pepe’s care to us.
Pepe is a 90-pound senior pup likely 10 years old, who was rescued with an injured front leg. It is obvious he uses the leg, hence it was never amputated, but he is getting a little arthritic. Due to his arthritis, he will need to take a pain supplement such a Glucosamine and we would recommend seeking guidance from a veterinarian to manage his arthritis. Pepe is a healthy senior (up to date on vaccines, physical exam, blood work, urinalysis). However, our vet seems to think his eyes are showing signs of lenticular schlerosis. Even though he has a few health challenges, Pepe is a happy dog and is quite mobile.
Pepe is good friends with dogs of all ages and size, always supervised. However, he is good friends with ASPEN a lab/pit mix young adult spayed female, who was also transferred along with Pepe. These two shared the “dirt corral” the past several years and have each other to keep company. They lounge in the sun and run around playing. Pepe is pretty mobile, although he can get tired easily (panting and laying down) after a few minutes of playtime/running around. Aspen and Pepe do NOT need to be adopted or fostered together, but it would be a good match for someone looking for 2 friends.
Pepe is very friendly, but we do not know how he would do with cats as he has never been around them. For safety, we prefer no kitties live in the home. He is also crate trained and would also be happy in a yard with occasional access to the indoors. Our goal is for him to have a different environment where he can have company, attention, love, and enjoy the rest of his years. Don’t wait, submit an online application at www.arwob.org right away!
