Meet Junior!

This handsome fellow came to ARWOB as a rescue from Ensenada, Mexico back in the summer of 2021 when he was only a puppy. The family who rescued him from the streets of Ensenada found him alone and took him home. They had a senior dog and couldn't keep Junior, but he bonded with their 5yr child... a little girl who loved to play with Junior in the patio. You can actually find the cutest video of them both playing on a tricycle going around and around in the patio.

The family contacted  ARWOB and we were able to take him in on 09/2021 into a foster home in San Diego. The poor guy was culture shocked probably because he had lived with the family inside their home for a couple months and wasn't socialized, Junior needed a little time to decompress and start to trust people. This is the reason we think this poor guy has grown up under our care, a very sad thing to see a young 6mo pup grow up to now be an almost full-grown one year old adult..

Junior is true to the collie breed and is very SMART, active and full of love. Currently (as of 01/14/22) junior is approx. 42 pounds so we think he will be full grown at 45 -50 pounds tops.

This sweet ham LOVES to be loved and babied. He has not lived with children since he arrived in San Diego in September, but we think he would be great around them WITH a proper, slow introduction. He currently lives with his BFF Rosie and Lady, but he has been around MANY Arwob dogs and does well with them all from male to female, to small and large breeds. He would probably be ok with an alpha adult female but NOT an alpha adult male dog. We are not sure, but we don't think he would be submissive to a dominating male dog. He is pretty good with cats and Flounder and some of the ARWOB cats are good friends with him. He would love a dog friendly cat but would be fine with a cat who wants nothing to do with him as soon as he gets the hint from the kitty.

Junior is crate trained and house trained, rides well in the car and actually loves his leash to go for outings, be it walks or the car rides. He is a healthy, handsome pup who will be a great companion and his ideal forever family would be one with another dog in the home and a yard with an owner who understands Junior will need dog training as he lacks some manners being no fault of his own because he has never had a family to teach him dog obedience. He does know how to sit and has learned to drop it (which means when he has a toy in his mouth he needs to let it go when you try to remove it adn not be playing a tug of war), He LOVES toys, ALL toys. PERIOD! They can be hard or sof... he loves them all, and he would be super happy fetching a ball or playing tug of war or chase.
Junior loves to carry toys around and you will often see that adorable face with something in his mouth. He does have some 'resource guarding' mostly toys, BUT he also shares, so he thinks all the toys are his and hoards them in a pile! Junior mostly does it with the NEW toys as once the commodity of a fun and new toy wears off he shares all toys just fine.

Anyone interested in meeting and adopting Junior should know we will request during the meet and greet or a day when he is set to be picked up to go home the family, they will also meet with one of the most amazing dog trainers and behaviorists here in San Diego who will also meet with Junior and assess him and let the adopters know what they need to work on at home.. like leash manners and any other things such as the toy resource guarding, etc. Because of his breed, we want to make sure the family and Junior start off right and on the path to success since Aussies and herding breeds are very smart and need a good handler to be able to be a leader for him.

As a long-term resident Junior's adoption fee is decreased to $100 which includes 2 sessions with the trainer; the rest would need to be financed by his adopter AND we are happy to consider a foster to adopt trial for 2 weeks as well to make sure the family is well matched for him.

We are only considering adopters who will be able to enroll in dog training and believe training is a important part of dog ownership to have a well-mannered and socialized dog and a family who is looking to meet his mental and physical needs. He can be a total couch potato, but he could also join a triathlon and smile while crossing the line! By the way, junior LOVES water and is not afraid of rain :)

If you are interested in adopting this amazing little man, please submit an adoption application at www.arwob.org. Don’t wait!
